Warrior of the Wild

Tricia Levenseller

Summary: As her father's chosen heir, eighteen-year-old Rasmira has trained her whole life to become a warrior and lead her village. But when her coming-of-age trial is sabotaged and she fails the test, her father banishes her to the monster-filled wilderness with an impossible quest: To win back her honor, she must kill the oppressive god who claims tribute from the villages each year—or die trying.

My Review: Warrior of the Wild surprised me in the best way. I started out listening to it and at about the 40% mark had dive in and start reading. (There is a TREEHOUSE. And as a kid who was obsessed with Swiss Family Robinson I wholeheartedly got on board.) I thoroughly enjoyed this standalone, feminist fantasy, not only for the really cool setting (again TREEHOUSE) and plot but also for the character growth! Rasmira learns and grows so much throughout the book. I loved the action scenes, the romance was sweet and made me laugh out loud at times and I thought the ending was perfect for a standalone. All the loose threads were wrapped up, though I will admit, just like with The Shadows Between Us, I could’ve kept reading about these characters for another 200 pages, just because I enjoyed their company so much.

Recommended age: 13/14+ (mild thematic elements)
