“I am a master of foolhardy plans.”
The Thief (The Queen's Thief #1)
Megan Whalen Turner
Summary: The king’s scholar, the magus, believes he knows the site of an ancient treasure. To attain it for his king, he needs a skillful thief, and he selects Gen from the king’s prison. The magus is interested only in the thief’s abilities. What Gen is interested in is anyone’s guess. Their journey toward the treasure is both dangerous and difficult, lightened only imperceptibly by the tales they tell of the old gods and goddesses.
My Review: I will forever hold a special place in my heart for Gen the Thief. What a beautifully intricate story, written for children, but so enjoyable for adults too. This would be such a great classroom read (5th/6th grade and up) or a great parent/child read. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Recommended ages: 7/8+ (no crazy themes, but vocabulary and language is more appropriate for 7/8 and up).
